Role Summary

The Head of Profession (P3M) is a key leadership position within the Digital Intelligence Global Capabilities and the Delivery Management function. The successful applicant will be accountable to the Delivery Management leadership for the definition of objectives and delivery improvement initiatives in the Project, Programme and Portfolio (P3M) Community. The role holder will also be responsible (to the Delivery Management function) for:

  • setting and assuring the standards of project delivery;
  • defining delivery policy, processes, methodology and tooling;
  • supporting assurance assessments across internal and customer facing programmes;
  • providing an environment for professionals to develop their knowledge and skillsets.
  • Shaping the solution for both tools and data within the onging integration of the Digital Intelligence organization.

What you will be doing

  • Shaping the future strategic direction for Delivery Management in Digital Intelligence;
  • Overseeing professional standards, processes and tooling for delivery;
  • Tracking trends within the project/delivery management industry;
  • Defining P3M professional role objectives in line with Business Unit need;
  • Developing improvement initiatives to improve the professional standards for delivery;
  • Collaborating on the Delivery Management sections of the Digital Intelligence Strategic Workforce Plan;
  • Maintaining a P3M Career Framework with underpinning role definitions;
  • Developing the training development plan for the P3M community;
  • Engaging with the P3M community through events, newsletters, connect sites and other channels;
  • Promoting professional development, certification and links with external development bodies.
  • Maintaining the prioritised list of continual improvement tasks for the P3M and PMO community;
  • Ensuring that the P3M community is an open, encouraging, diverse resource for all to share in;
  • Representing the interests of Digital Intelligence (P3M community) within the BAE Systems group;
  • Maintaining a P3M graduate or apprentice scheme;
  • Approving professional registration and certification standards for members of the community.

What we're looking for

Essential (attributes for success in role):

  • Prior experiences of programme / project delivery operation in a large programme or business PMO;
    • Duration of experience: 10years+; Value of projects/programmes managed: £10M+;
    • Practical use of different methodologies: waterfall, agile, hybrid, DevOps, etc.;
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills with other functions/disciplines;
  • Effective communication with large, global and nationally dispersed teams;
  • Knowledge of business and government organizational models;
  • Good understanding of career framework models and competency definitions (P3M and PMO professions);
  • Ability to lead and inspire matrix teams and professional communities;
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner or Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner certification or equivalents.

Nice To Have (complementary attributes, the absence of which will not disadvantage the application):

  • Experience of conducting assurance reviews of various delivery operating models;
  • Developing Project Management and PMO professional capability in others, including entry level roles.
