Role: Database Specialist - Postgres & Redshift
Salary: Starting from £40,000 to £60,000

Do databases float your boat, are you passionate about data. If so and you're an experienced database specialist who likes project work, lives and breathes SQL & likes to get hands on this role could be for you.

Ideally the candidate will be based in either our Bristol or Norwich office but other Aviva locations will considered for the right candidate

A bit about the job:

The role will report to the Group and Data Platform Infrastructure Manager but will work closely with the DevOps and design team when required. Our primary database is PostgreSQL RDS, but we have Oracle, DB2, MS SQL, DynamoDB with Redshift & Aurora Postgres expected soon.
  • Identify, take operational ownership of and resolve (via the DevOps team) database issues
  • Working with the DevOps team to improving sustainability through performance/efficiency tuning, cost optimisation & improving the monitoring for the databases in the estate
  • Database consultancy & subject matter expertise to the DevOps team
  • Database consultancy to the Solution Design team when required for design work including Tech Evaluations / PoC's

Skills and experience we're looking for:
  • DBA level experience of PostgreSQL preferred
  • AWS certification or relevant experience
  • Can do, pro-active attitude. Someone who can leverage their technical skills and prioritise their workloads to deliver the best customer outcomes on time.
  • PostgreSQL flavours of RDS, Aurora & Redshift desirable
  • Experience and knowledge of Aviva's Cloud environment processes desirable.
