About the role

Join the Leeds Delivery Centre as a Platform/ DevOps Engineer. We have a range of Platform Engineering roles available for those who've got a couple of years experience under their belits, through to experienced leaders.

As a key member of an Engineering team, you'll be working with our customers to build systems that support their core mission capabilities. You'll work as part of empowered, autonomous DevOps teams to flexibly and efficiently understand, design, develop, deploy and maintain applications and services. You'll be encouraged to identify new ways of solving problems and get to work in a range of different teams across our customer organisations. You will work in a small team and be given as much ownership and responsibility as you have the appetite for. You'll be part of a much larger Engineering community to give you the support you want in order to grow your knowledge, and capabilities.

We fully embrace DevOps ways of working in our teams, and build a very broad range of capabilities for our customers. We therefore value Engineers who enjoy operating in roles that expose you to the full delivery lifecycle. You'll be given flexiblity in order to learn and pick up new technologies and approaches and will play a role in identifying the right technologies to use for the job. You'll be supported with training with access to services such as Pluralsight.

Not only will your team be making an impact upon the systems you work with, you'll be doing it for an organisation that has a huge impact on the security and safety of the UK and other nations.

Security Clearance is required for this role, if you are not currently Security Cleared, you will need to be eligible for this and willing to go through the clearance process.

About you

You will have experience of working in a DevOps / SRE / Infrastructure role. Great communication and problem solving skills are vital in this role, as is a desire to learn new technologies.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

• Contribute to refinement of non-functional requirements

• Drive the prioritisation and delivery of backlogs

• Implement security best-practices and recommendations; often through the means of developed services and automation

• Facilitate an effective relationship between third party suppliers and client platform teams

• Participate in workstream and project Scrum ceremonies

• Raise issues and risks appropriately to Delivery Manager

Required skills

• Ability to operate in small cross-functional engineering teams to build supportable, sustainable, and reliable services

• Working knowledge of AWS, RDS, Ansible, Kafka, Zookeeper, Patroni, Artifactory, Hadoop, Informatica, Docker

• Deployment automation using Jenkins

• Strong version control skills with git and bitbucket

Exposure to the following techniques, tools and platforms is helpful:

• Promethues

• Grafana

• Kibana

• Python

• Test frameworks
