2. Role Purpose

As Deputy Head of Finance for a Digital Intelligence Business Unit, you will be responsible for providing financial leadership and guidance to peers on the Business Unit Leadership Team ensuring financial performance is optimised and targets are met and exceeded.

Whilst we are operating on a hybrid working arrangement there will be the requirment to attend the office in Gloucester (maybe 2/3 time per month) with additional travel also to London/Guildford when required

The role is offered on a Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

3. Core Duties / Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the operation and performance of the business unit and delivery of budget and IBP targets (accountability sits with Head of Finance NS)
  • Ensuring that the operating model of Financial Controlling and FP&A is followed, and driving all such work, performed by your teams, into those relevant centres.
  • Implement financial strategy for the Business Unit; responsible for the numbers and financial performance of the Business Unit.
  • Provide strong financial/commercial business partnering in the form of forward looking insights, guidance, advice, decision support and challenge to optimise the financial performance of the Business Unit and support superior performance.
  • Provide leadership, constructive challenge and influence decision making to drive business strategy and deliver a high level of performance and control.
  • Drive improved business profitability through understanding cost drivers and levers.
  • Consider and take a calculated risk based approach to business performance to ensure opportunities can be captured.
  • Understand the key levers in the business to drive margin expansion and cash conversation and drive the BU LT to deliver on those improved metrics.
  • Ensure a robust control framework is being operated at a project and portfolio level in compliance with financial policies and Digital Intelligence processes.
  • Ensure timely and insightful reporting on business performance and outlook as part of monthly results and the planning cycle, in tune with the Business Needs.
  • Create an inclusive and diverse finance structure with a curious and inquisitive mindset that will drive performance in the business.
  • Shape and approve bids for new business to ensure the chances of winning are optimised. Ensure governance operates effectively to involve HoF BD where above the relevant delegations.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the leadership team, and the wider business.
  • Manage and provide oversight on all external Customer reporting.
  • Create an environment of continuous improvement to ensure the Business Unit Finance team are operating in the most efficient manner.

4. Functional Knowledge (Requirements for knowledge of functional work and activities, the technical expertise)

  • Significant PQE in a recognised accounting qualification and demonstrable business partnering experience at a senior level is essential.

5. Business Expertise (Requirements of the role for knowledge and expertise about the business, rather than the technical expertise)

  • An in depth understanding of the portfolio of products and services offered by Digital Intelligence is necessary.
  • Understand the key business drivers from both an external and internal capacity and provide that feedback and insight to the relevant BU LT

6. Leadership

  • Collaborate across all levels of seniority within the business and support the development of the Business Unit finance team and other colleagues. Creating an inclusive environment where everyone can operate at their best is vital.
  • Leading and influencing individuals not under direct management (approx. 9 finance team members).

7. Problem Solving

  • Analysing complex financial information for effective decision making and forward thinking insights.
  • Using forecasting techniques for accurate business planning.
  • Evaluates situations using multiple sources of information.
  • Requires complex judgment based on advanced analytical thought.

8. Nature of Impact

  • Implementing strategy for the Business Unit / decision-making / impact on BU revenue / numbers.

9. Area of Impact

  • Impacts the success of the Business Unit, and thereby the overall success of the Company.

10. Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong Business Acumen / commercial experience.
  • Curious mindset.
  • Ability to critically review and offer constructive feedback to people at all levels of seniority in the business. Strong negotiating and influencing skills / Constructive challenge / Influencing with Senior stakeholders Up to LT level.
  • Collaboration with Capabilities and a range of Functions (Commercial, Procurement etc).
  • Work closely with and influence Delivery, Sales & the Project Management Office.
