In the Information Governance Specialist role you will support WEA in its compliance with internal policies relating to data privacy and storage, and all legislation and government directives relating to information rights and responsibilities, including the General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018, and Freedom of Information Act 2000. You will support the overall development, management and delivery of the Information Governance Strategy and work programme to assist the Information Governance Manager / DPO and governance influenced sub-groups.

Key areas of responsibility:

Reporting to the Information Governance Manager (and DPO), the successful candidate will:

-Assist the Information Governance Manager / DPO in ensuring that all staff, tutors, and volunteers are aware of and understand their responsibilities in respect of data protection, and the confidentiality of personal data.
-Coordinate, publicise and monitor standards of information handling across the Association.
-Provide excellent customer service, answering first-line enquiries and providing advice, guidance and interpretation on matters relating to information governance to staff, tutors, and volunteers.
-Contribute to the development, implementation and review of information governance policies, and the framework to fulfil WEA`s obligations in accordance with current legislation and funding requirements.
-Support in the review of issues arising from staff, volunteers, learners, and members of the public who have queries and/or complaints about data protection, freedom of information, subject access requests, and records management.
-Monitor and investigate data breaches and security incidents, ensuring advice and guidance is provided around data breach prevention to mitigate risks and ensuring any high-risk breaches are escalated to the DPO who is required to report these to the Information Commissioner

About you:

We are looking for:
- Experience of delivering hiqh-quality customer service to diverse, geographically diffuse constituencies.
- Advanced knowledge of UK GDPR and DPA 2018, and practical experience of implementation and compliance monitoring.
- Collaborative working across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work streams and priorities.
