Job Description

  • Suffolk County Council - Endeavour House, Ipswich IP1 2BX - Hybrid
  • £35.10 per hour
  • Casual
  • No contracted hours (ad hoc basis, as required)

Your role and responsibilities

You will:
  • ensure governing boards have clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • hold executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils and the performance management of staff
  • oversee the financial performance of the organisation and make sure its money is well spent
  • will empower governing boards to strengthen their practice, through modelling and coaching, so that they become confident in effectively carrying out their roles without support
  • ensure the voices of stakeholders are heard.

You will need
  • experience of being an effective chair or vice chair of governors
  • to be passionate about making a positive difference for Suffolk children
  • the ability to remain objective
  • evidence of achievement of excellence in governance and impact on the quality of education for children
  • in-depth knowledge and understanding of the major issues facing governing boards in the context of a political climate
  • to coach and mentor governing boards by harnessing the strength and talents of new or existing governors in order to support them to achieve their full potential and optimise their effectiveness.

The team

As a Governance Support Partner, you will work as part of the Standards and Excellence team. You will also work with a range of teams from Suffolk County Council depending on the bespoke reasons why you have been deployed to a school. For example, this could include Schools' Organisational Support, Schools' Finance or Schools Choice HR. With each deployment there is a strong team around the school ensuring that you are well supported and there is a collaborative response to improvement objectives. Your work will be driven by the Standards and Excellence Team vision of 'Standards as good as the best for all children and young people, now and for their futures.
