The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR - www.nihr.ac.uk) is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research, and is the largest funder of health and social care research in the UK. The NIHR Central Commissioning Facility (CCF), based in Twickenham, manages circa £550 million pa of NIHR research and infrastructure funding and works alongside the NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure (NOCRI), which ensures patient benefit by establishing innovative partnerships with public, charity and industry research funders. Together, CCF and NOCRI constitute the Grant Management Group.

Job Description

The Governance, Performance and Improvement team ensures that GMG delivers its services effectively and efficiently within corporate, customer and regulatory requirements. The role of Governance & Risk Officer will be required to support all elements of the team with a particular focus on providing secretariat support to high level internal and external committees and compliance activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high level secretariat and admin support to the internal and external committees ensuring that all logistics are in place
  • Produce good quality and timely minutes
  • Proofread all papers and coversheets for all the meetings and
  • Identify opportunities for improving the collection and quality of management information and liaise with appropriate teams across GMG to implement the improvements.
  • Liaising with teams across GMG on the identification of process improvement opportunities, particularly in line with implementing best practice.
  • Provide a high standard of admin support to the rest of the GPI team including the maintenance of the databases, logs and risk registers
  • Working with the rest of the GPI team, understand the principles of corporate and customer policies as well as key areas of legislation (such as GDPR) to challenge GMG's processes accordingly, with a particular focus on research funding best practice.

Experience and Technical Skills:
Required Criteria
  • BSc in Science, Humanities or Law
  • An understanding of academic and/or research activities in science
  • Experience of translating policy into practice
  • Process mapping
  • Managing and presenting complex information
  • Identifying and implementing improvement opportunities
  • Scheduling, preparing and organising documents for high level meetings
  • Microsoft Office and G Suite software.

Desired Criteria
  • Experience of research funding

Contract: Full time/12 month fixed term contract

This is an office based, hybrid role, with an expectation for all employees to attend our offices a minimum of 4 days a month, which might increase, subject to team requirements.
